The 21st Century Corporation: Speed is Survival

Forget everything you know about success, because the rulebooks are being rewritten. All innovation has become short cycle—with little time left for hesitation or reflection—as the long-heralded “friction free” economy comes into clearer focus. As the barriers to entry continue to come down, the 21st Century Corporation is focused on redefining success and staying in a game where the losers will be capital-intensive industries like construction, utilities, and mining. The winners will harness cloud-based collaboration, shorten their innovation cycles, manage with transparency, and earn a seat at their customers’ design tables.

Let's Talk Supply Chain Politics

If early indicators are on target, we're all in for a wild ride on the global trade front over the next few years. President Trump’s oft-repeated promises to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and renegotiate NAFTA, for one, show his intent to invoke conflict with some of our biggest trading partners. Concurrently, his promise to bring offshored jobs back and keep more domestic jobs in place could impact the global transportation environment on several fronts, including less need for worldwide logistics capacity and more need for improved national logistics infrastructure. The ongoing battle over immigration could make it tougher than ever to find skilled supply chain workers.

You Can't Disrupt Without a Transformative Business Model. Got One?

Technology may be playing a major role in business transformation right now, but it’s not the only player in the disruption game. In fact, technology alone has never transformed an industry; it’s the innovative, disruptive business models (think Uber, Airbnb, MP3) that upend traditional methods and make the most waves. Where dominant models may emerge over time within specific industries, it’s the gutsy, forward-thinking entrepreneurs that impact the big shifts in our modern-day business world. Once the incumbents are displaced—using technology as a facilitator—entire industries can be transformed.

Are You Pursuing Small Ideas at the Expense of Driving Outstanding Results?

In business, entirely too much energy is put into solving the wrong problems, addressing symptoms instead of root causes, and/or pursuing small ideas at the expense of driving outstanding results. Once the true problem is defined, apply critical thinking skills to prioritize your problem-solving efforts and focus on opportunities that will create the biggest positive impacts on your business.

The Emergence of the New Supply Chain Leader

A new supply chain calls for a different type of supply chain manager—a leader! Historically, supply chain practitioners have been tacticians focused on making sure that the production lines rolled and orders were filled in the most cost efficient and timely manner possible. Today's strategic supply chain requires a new kind of leader who can effectively manage everything from IoT to cybersecurity to the "personalized" supply chain (and more). In this session, you'll hear how the top supply chain leaders are actually cross-boundary coordinators who drive outcomes, revenues, and business excellence—all while asking the "right" questions and eliminating unnecessary complications.

Why Your Company Needs to Hire Intrapreneurs Right Now

Maybe they didn’t start their own companies, but that doesn’t make intrapreneurs less creative, innovative, or motivated than their entrepreneurial cousins. They believe in change, aren’t afraid of failure, and seek out opportunities that others overlook. Highly valued in today’s fast-paced business environment, intrapreneurs bring something to the table that the average employee can’t—a penchant for redesigning processes, fixing workflows, and contributing to positive transformation across the entire enterprise. Here’s why you need them, where to find them, and how to keep them happy and productive at your company.

Reshoring Initiative

Track 1: Session 8

Tuesday: 2:15–3:15pm

Preparing Your Logistics for Trumponomics

The increasing advantages of producing near the customer have been driving some companies to reshore production and sourcing. The trend has been accelerated by the election of Donald Trump, the impact of Industry 4.0 and an increasing recognition of the many costs and risks due to offshoring. Even before November 2016, reshoring and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) had brought about 260,000 manufacturing jobs to the U.S. since January 2010. Understand the relevant trade and tax changes that have been made or are likely soon. Learn how and why to use the free Initiative TCO Estimator. Quantify the onshore advantages. Plan which products and components to bring back as U.S. competitiveness improves and reduces the cost gap with offshore.
